Like a disappointing Tinder match, the Blizzard of 2015 promised to deliver big inches but when it came time for the big event, the whole affair proved to be rather anticlimactic. Throughout New England, huge snowfall predictions were being made: Boston was expecting somewhere in the ballpark of 2 to 3 feet of snow, New York 1.5 to 2 feet, and Philadelphia more than a foot. A state of emergency was officially declared in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, southern New York and Rhode Island and a disaster emergency proclamation was signed in Pennsylvania. Schools, government services and public transit were shut down and curfews were put into effect. In other words, Mother Nature was set to bukkake the northeast.

Though Juno proved to be a bit of a bust, folks across the upper eastern seaboard stocked up on non perishables and holed up, prepared for the worst. Let’s take a look at how this historical weather event affected Pornhub traffic. Across the board, it seems as though when those extra inches failed to add up, people turned to Pornhub for some satisfaction. There were some definite increases in traffic in all states affected by the storm, averaging around 20% overall, with the most noticeable statewide spike occurring in New Jersey at 26%.

Now for a look at traffic levels on the metropolitan level. Though the streets of New York City were devoid of much traffic during the not so great Blizzard of 2015 thanks to the curfew implemented by mayor de Blasio before the storm hit, Pornhub traffic was up by a respectable 21% in the Big Apple. While meteorologists are apologizing for their faulty near 36 inch prediction in Boston, they did come pretty close to the related traffic increase in Beantown, at 35%. With their mere 4 inch accumulation in Trenton, a notable 12% increase in traffic was nonetheless observed in this New Jersey city.

When we look at traffic changes by device, mobile traffic appears to have increased more than double what desktop traffic did on the 27th in comparison to device proportions on an average Tuesday. With the threat of power outages looming, folks were likely logging on to Pornhub using their mobile devices over desktop. The near triple increases in traffic originating from this type of device over desktop in New Hampshire and over double in Maine allude to people preparing for the worst in the event that the power should fail.

If we take a look at hourly traffic changes, we see some interesting trends throughout the states and cities. With many people expecting to stay home the next day, they were up later than usual logging extra hours on Pornhub. Peak Pornhub hours in the US are generally from 10pm to midnight, but on January 27th traffic increased more from 2am to 4am (Eastern Standard Time). In most places, the next largest increase in traffic happened between 10am and 2pm where we saw a 73% increase in Boston traffic, and 50% across the state of New Jersey.

Much like during the Deep Freeze of 2014, when the weather gets nasty outside, people flock to get nasty on Pornhub. Will future weather events affect traffic in the same way? Super Bowl XLIX was packed with many now memorable moments. There was that rather questionable play call during the game’s final moments, the brawl, the giant tiger transformer that Katy Perry rode in on, all of which was capped off by Gisele Bündchen’s husband taking home the award for MVP. Here at Pornhub and YouPorn HQ, what we will remember forever about 2015’s big game is how our traffic stats were affected. As we have seen during other sporting events such as the recent CFB Playoff game or the World Cup, traffic changes surrounding a major sporting event tend to cause a pattern resembling an upside down parabola. This year’s Super Bowl affected traffic on both Pornhub and YouPorn in this same way but let’s take a closer look at some of the specifics.

Let’s start with an overall look at how the game affected traffic stats on a national level. When we compare the United States with Canada and the rest of the World, it seems that the biggest dip occurred between 8-9 pm mark in the US, with a 28% drop. To the north, Canada also experienced it’s most significant drop during this time, though it would appear that the rest of the world wasn’t as interested in watching Katy Perry fly around the University of Phoenix Stadium on a drone during her half time performance, as traffic was virtually unaffected internationally during this time.

The world appears to have tuned for some pregame and kick off action with the most significant lull in traffic occurring between 6 and 7 pm EST, and peaking a little prematurely between 9 and 10pm at 4%. Both Canada and the US saw the game through until the 10:07pm end time and traffic spikes of 7% and 9% respectively were observed just after the game ended.

Unsurprisingly, these traffic changes become more drastic when we hone in on the states involved in the game. Host state Arizona saw it’s maximum traffic drop just before kick off at 6 pm, though the most significant pregame traffic increases were noted here, peaking at 13% at 3pm. Comparatively, this same time marks when traffic began to steadily decrease in both Massachusetts and Washington, only recovering again after the game ended. After 10pm, New England fans took to Pornhub to celebrate the big win, with traffic increasing as much as 33% in the hours after the game ended, but dipping back down towards average levels as of about 1am. Seahawks fans were apparently licking their wounds elsewhere, as traffic only increased by about 14% once the final score was announced, and decreased steadily immediately afterwards.

Comparable patterns can be observed when we take a look at traffic changes on a metropolitan level. Again, host city Phoenix appears to have been the least affected of all though traffic levels did dip during the game, with the biggest drop at 21% having been recorded right around kick off time. Phoenix also saw the most pregame action with that buildup stress getting released to the tune of 13% maximum traffic spikes in the host city around 3pm. Boston and Seattle were getting into the zone around this time, marking the start of major traffic drops on both sides. Across the board, a slight relief from these overall game time traffic dips is noted around the mid-game mark when Ms. Perry was putting on her highly anticipated half time show which proved to be devoid of any nip slips. Despite the lack of wardrobe malfunctions, she did seem to do a pretty good job in getting the masses riled up, as these numbers suggest that viewers rubbed a quick one out then tuned back in for the last 2 quarters.

Though Seattle’s peak drop of 49% between 8-9 pm is considerably less than their max drop of 61% during the 2014 Super Bowl, Boston takes another win with their 56% traffic drop during the last hour of the game proving to be the most significant of all. Interestingly, Phoenix is the city where the post-game festivities raged the hardest on the best site in the world, increasing steadily from midnight onwards and peaking at 31%, compared to Seattle’s 14% at 11 after which traffic decreased steadily and winning Boston’s 1am 23% peak.

The Pornhub statisticians are at it again and today’s study brings us back to central Europe, thanks to our friends at L’essentiel. Luxembourg may fall on the smaller side of the spectrum when landmass is considered, but a closer look at their porn-viewing habits sure does make the country with the world’s highest GDP per capita stand out. After all, it’s not always the size that counts! As a part of a special collaboration with our friends over at L’essentiel we’ve got the exclusive scoop on this particularly little part of the world. Let’s get started!

THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT IN LUXEMBOURG

Ever get that feeling of dread on a Sunday, knowing that you have to start back at work for a whole week the next morning? In Luxembourg they know that a trip to Pornhub is the best way to beat those weekend end blues, with Sundays showing the most traffic on average. Traffic slows a little on Fridays, the least popular day for Pornhub in Luxembourg. These same trends showing a rise in traffic as the weekend finishes and a dip as it starts were also observed in the United Kingdom, Mexico and the Netherlands as we noted in our 2014 Year in Review. Just before the witching hour is peak Pornhub time in Luxembourg, with 10 pm – midnight proving to be when Luxembourgers get busiest on the best site in the world.

The worldwide average proportion of female viewership on Pornhub is 23%, so Luxembourg falls a little below average here with their 21%. Things get really interesting with a look at their top viewed categories, however. Though this tiny country ranks 179th in the world for size, they sure do have a thing for Big Tits, and Big Dicks, their 5th and 7th place most popular categories. Of particular interest though is, ‘Reality’ taking 2nd place, followed by ‘Gay’ in 3rd. In fact, when we looked at top search terms in certain towns within Luxembourg, many were specifically gay and reality porn themed. For instance, in Bettembourg, ‘casting’ and ‘fake’ are the top 2 searched terms, while in Rodange, ‘straight friend’ and ‘bareback gangbang’ are the top 2 searched terms.  Let’s take a look at some of the more popular searches nationwide.

As we have seen in many countries before like Scotland and India, a country’s nationality will generally be among it’s own top searched terms on Pornhub. This is not the case in Luxembourg, as ‘german‘ and ‘french’ nab the top 2 positions, paying tribute to the country’s considerably larger border-sharing lands. This type of neighborly love has been noticed in other countries as well – for instance, ‘Argentina’ is a top search term in Chile. Interestingly, ‘luxembourg’ is all the way down at number 14 of the top 20 search terms, followed by ‘czech’ at number 20. This can be attributed to to the small size of the country which, with a population hovering around half a million, simply might not have much locally sourced amateur porn available, as well as a healthy love for the guys and girls next door.

Both within and outside the capital city, Kim Kardashian asserts her popularity in holding it down in third and second place, respectively and is the second most popular porn star in Luxembourg. The mother of all porn stars, Lisa Ann (NSFW) holds on strong to the top spot but sizzling newcomer Mia Khalifa is making some serious strides, claiming spots within the top 10 searches, and is the 6th most popular porn star in the country as seen in the chart above.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

In countries all over the world, it’s quite common for holidays to cause traffic dips on Pornhub. As surveyed in our 2014 Year in Review, average overall traffic lulls of 44% occur around the world on New Years Eve and of 18% on Christmas Day. Luxembourg’s 65% dip on New Years Eve fits in with the overall central European trend that we have recorded, where in countries like the Netherlands, Germany and France, traffic dips of around 65% were also observed. Comparatively, in the United States, traffic on NYE drops only by 37%.

Luxembourg does appear to be focusing on resurrection of a different type on Easter Monday, however, as traffic actually increases by 9% on this day. This rise in traffic occurs on the heels of Easter Sunday where a 21% average drop in traffic is observed, compared to only 10% in the US. Luxembourg also seems to take a slight vacation from Pornhub during the summer holidays, with a general 6% drop in traffic occurring from July 15th through August 31st. Much more remarkable drops manifested during the final World Cup game, where the Germany vs. Argentina championship match caused average traffic numbers to drop by an impressive 32%, compared to only 12% worldwide.

TABLET TAKEOVER?

2014 saw a considerable rise in portable porn. A 12% international increase in mobile phone usage in regards to Pornhub’s traffic shares over the course of the year, and generally overtaking desktop as the most popular platform indicates a general departure from the age of PC porn viewing. Tablet technology appears to have really taken off in Luxembourg, where visits originating from this type of device account for a notable 16% of traffic shares, compared to the worldwide 11%. As such, 56% of Pornhub traffic in Luxembourg comes from a mobile device and Luxembourgers definitely prefer taking their porn to go.

Speaking of mobile traffic, the Pornhub statisticians also observed some interesting behavior occurring during the nationwide 12-2pm lunch break. Specifically, desktop traffic drops a notable 18% during this time, while mobile is only down 8%. In this sense, it would appear that Pornhub users in Luxembourg are making the most of their time out of the office to get busy with some handheld hot stuff.

Lunch breaks aside, how long do Luxembourgers tend to spend on the world’s best porn site? They typically get the job done in a little over 8 and a half minutes. This is a whole 45 seconds less than the 9 minute and 16 second world average, so there is definitely something to be said about the efficiency with which the inhabitants of this industrious land get the job done. Within the Benelux triad, there isn’t much of a discrepancy in regards to each country’s average time on site. The most notable differences can be observed when comparing Luxembourg’s 8:31 average to neighboring Germany at 8:05 and France at 9:09.

Today the Pornhub statisticians are inviting you to come and czech out one of the most important porn-producing countries in the world: the Czech Republic. Known for it’s abundance of castles and gorgeous landscapes, this Eastern European country is also the homeland of some of the most beautiful babes in the business. Read on for this exclusive look at how the Czech get it on with Pornhub.

QUICK STATS

As we have seen in several other countries and as surveyed in our 2014 Year in Review, people tend to flock to Pornhub as the work week begins, while traffic tapers off a little as the weekend begins. The Czech Republic follows suit here with Mondays proving to be the most popular day for Pornhub, while Saturdays see traffic slowing slightly. Czechs are also rather efficient in getting the job done with their 7 minute and 56 second average time on site, compared to the worldwide 9 minute and 16 second average. In this sense, the Czech are more aligned with nearby Russia where they spend an average of 7:47 on the best site in the world, as well as Brazil where site visits tend to last around 7:51. It’s the ladies of Bohemia and beyond who really have it on lock, however, with their impressive 25% share hold of viewership, a proportion which they have in common with India and Finland, as well as the ‘Female Friendly’ category claiming second place as most popular within the country.

Did you know that the largest castle in the world is located in the Czech Repulic? The Prague Castle occupies an impressive 70 000 m², indicating a Czech love for the large which also manifests itself in the ‘Big Dick’ and ‘Big Tit’s category both landing within the nation’s top 10 most viewed categories.

MAKING IT LAST

On a regional level, most of the country sticks close to the average just under 8 minute mark in terms of how long they tend to spend on Pornhub. The highland region of Vysocina dips considerably below, with a 7:27 average time, perhaps because the inhabitants there are otherwise spending their time enjoying mounds of another type in one of the area’s 2 mountain ranges or taking in the sights at one of their 3 UNESCO world heritage sites.

WHAT ARE YOU CZECHING OUT?

We’ve seen it before and we’ll see it again; in any given country like Spain or nearby Hungary for instance, the top porn searches will generally relate to the country itself. Here in the Czech Republic, we see this trend continuing with ‘Czech’ taking the top spot by a long shot, followed by ‘Czech amateur’ in second. In fact, ‘Czech’ is also a popular search term outside of the Republic’s borders, as we have observed in countries such as Chile, Germany and the Netherlands where they are also searching for copious amounts of Czech flavored content. Back to the country in question, ‘Czech party,’ ‘Czech bitch’ and ‘Czech public’ all also appear on the list of top search terms as do terms like ‘casting’ and ‘public’. These last few may be indicative of the good people of the Czech Republic sampling some of their locally produced goods, as porn heavy hitters like Fake Agent (NSFW) and Public Agent (NSFW) are based out of the country.

The Czech definitely know how to have a good time, as indicated by their claim to the title of the country with the highest beer consumption per capita in the world, as well as ‘Czech Party’ ranking rather high in several of the country’s regions. In this drop down interactive chart, we’re able to take a look at each region’s top search terms, including porn stars. Over in the Plzen, the birthplace of Pilsner beer, national pride is especially high as exemplified by the top 4 searches containing the word ‘Czech’. All that beer has got to go somewhere though, and interestingly enough ‘squirt’ and ‘piss’ happen to rank 7th and 9th place in this region, and even higher in Pardubice where ‘squirt’ takes 2nd and ‘piss’ takes 7th place. Historically speaking, the Czech tend to perform better at the Olympics in land-based events but their love for water sports definitely shines through in their top searched porn terms.

And now for a look at the leading ladies within the Czech Republic. Once again, the Czech are proving to be big fans of their local treasures with native beauties Lola Taylor, Caprice, Tarra White, Nessa Devil and Gina Devine accounting for 25% of the spots of the nations’ top 20 searched stars. They do keep it rather traditional in terms of rank, however with MILF queen Lisa Ann (NSFW) claiming the top spot, followed by fellow usual suspects Madison Ivy (NSFW) and Asa Akira (NSFW).

Kim Kardashian ranks relatively low here at number 15, when compared to her worldwide ranking at number 8 as seen in the 2014 Year In Review while recent Internet sensation Mia Khalifa (NSFW) ranks at a respectable 6th place.

TRAFFIC TRENDS

Holidays inevitably interrupt the regular flow of traffic on Pornhub, so let’s take a look at how the Czech Rebulic fares during the festivities. On the international level, Christmas Day sees an average drop of 18% and New Year’s Eve by 44%. Comparatively, Czech traffic on Christmas Day only dips by about 6% but drops by almost 60% on New Years Eve, a drop magnitude which is typical in most of the European countries we’ve surveyed. Christmas Eve traffic goes down by about half, while the holiday dedicated to the first Christian martyr, St Stephen’s Day, sees Czech Pornhub viewers making sacrifices to the tune of a 30% drop in regular traffic levels.

The Czech Republic boasts some of the highest Internet speeds in the world, even beating out the United States, which may explain their rather large share of traffic proportions being allocated to desktops. At a whopping 75%, Czechs beat out the rest of the world by almost 30% with their desktop devotion. Smartphones are taking over as the most popular platform in many countries worldwide but the Czech seemingly aren’t quite interested in taking their porn to go, with only 19% of Pornhub visits occurring from these types of devices.

Being single on Valentine’s Day can actually be pretty fun, not to mention cost effective. While the paired off among us tend to traditionally, be it happily or begrudgingly, plan dinner dates or overspend on chocolates and roses to show our significant other that we really care and/or didn’t forget the Hallmark holiday to begin with, mid-February can give rise to some other interesting pastimes for those of us flying solo. As a part of a special collaboration with our friends over at GQ, the Pornhub statisticians took a look at how Pornhub users celebrated Valentine’s Day last year because self-love is the best kind of love! Let’s take a closer look.

I CHOO-CHOO-CHOOSE YOU

We’ll begin with some data that shows how Valentine’s Day affects general search habits. For one, ‘Valentines Day’ as a search term impressively manages to break into the top 10 most searched terms overall, coming in at a solid 5th place. We’ve observed this kind of holiday cheer before as a part of our XXXmas with Pornhub post, when ‘Christmas’ proved to be the top searched term on that particular day. Though Valentine’s Day doesn’t quite make it to number one, the ranking is nonetheless impressive for this considerably smaller, non-statutory holiday.

The most viewed categories overall are relatively standard, but there’s definitely some interesting stuff going on when we look over to the categories demonstrating significant view increases on V-day. Aside from 45% and 34% spikes in the Bondage and Anal categories, Pornhub viewers treat themselves to some pretty spicy content on Valentines Day, as made evident by categories like Creampie, Striptease and Fisting all seeing around 15% more views. The 19% increase in views in the Funny category indicate that some were perhaps in need of some comic relief alongside the other kind of relief traditionally offered by Pornhub.

The top gaining search terms on Valentine’s Day are also pretty on the festive side. ‘Valentines Day’ and ‘Valentine’ both saw astronomical increases in popularity on Pornhub on February 14th, specifically to the tune of 41412% and 8204% respectively, as well as ‘cupid’ at 433%. We also noticed a piqued interest in some other types of mood-setting content, as searches for  ‘naughty swinger wife’ and ‘make her scream’ both soared. Some activity-themed searches like ‘body paint, ‘ sauna,’ ‘romantic sex,’ and ‘strip poker’ all saw some considerable spikes as well but more traditional terms like ‘love,’ ‘kiss’ and ‘date’ only saw increases of about 20%.

STATE OF THE UNION

Our trusty statisticians also took note of traffic changes that occurred on V-Day in each state. Though on a national level traffic only dipped by about 2% overall, sparks really flew in terms of traffic increases in some states while in others things sort of fizzled out. The chart below breaks it all down.

A recent study of the language used on social media relating to Valentine’s Day published on Mashable proved Hawaii and Texas to be some of the most romantic states in the country, given the enthusiastic language people in those states used to talk about the most romantic day of the year. Interestingly, these 2 states also showed some of the most significant decreases in Pornhub traffic on Valentine’s Day, perhaps saving up their energy for some post-date fun. On the other hand, Kansas and New Hampshire were found to be some of the least romantic states in the US according to this same study. These 2 coincidentally top our list as the states with the biggest increases in traffic on Valentines, so we’re glad to see that even if people there aren’t feeling particularly festive, they’re still giving ‘er with some self love. V-DAY IN THE UK

Our statisticians also observed that Pornhub users over in the United Kingdom were up to some festive searching of their own variety on Valentine’s Day, though some interesting similarities to the United States were also noted. For instance, just like across the pond, ‘Valentines Day’ made it to #5 on the top searched terms overall on that day.

There are some additional similarities to the US searches profiled earlier, such as the huge increase in ‘Valentine’s Day’ and ‘Valentine’, each searched 21 562% and 19 479% more on the lovers’ holiday. As we noticed in our UK Update post, folks from this part of the world definitely bring some local flare to their searches, with slang terms like ‘dogging’ and the like having made it into the mix. As we can see in the chart below, this trend was also observed on V-Day. Exciting types of bedroom activities like ‘bodypaint,’ sounding,’ and ‘sex swing’ all increased between 300-550%, as did certain positions like ‘titty wank’ and ’69 couple,’ each increasing over 200% in popularity. ‘Hangover’ interestingly spikes 1450%, perhaps because people were drunk in love, and anticipating an evening of ‘surfboard,’ which also went up an astonishing 572%. A nod to the pastoral allure of the UK is noted in ‘the farmers wife’ increasing 464% in popularity, not to mention other native indicators like ‘single mum,’british wives,’ and ‘amateur uk dogging’ all also making notable gains.

The UK’s overall traffic dipped slightly more than over in the US with a considerable 3% drop, though this figure does vary from city to city. Southernmost Plymouth and Oxford show the biggest drops at 11% and 10%  respectively, with the only real increase in traffic having been noted in London. Incidentally, the British capital was heralded as one of the most romantic cities in the Isles in a recent study, Londoners were among the top spending in terms of Valentine’s Day related gifts.

Cinema has come to affect our lives and views in real and meaningful ways. For instance, after the release of the film Sideways, Merlot became more difficult to move off of shelves while Pinot Noir enjoyed a 16% spike in sales. Deer hunting decreased by nearly half for a few years after Bambi. In the same vein, the recent release of the film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey has been shaking things up over here at Pornhub. Specifically, people are getting freakier in their pornographic preferences and we’ve got the data to prove it.

NOT SO GREY AREA

There’s no real debate here; since the now infamous film was released over Valentine’s Day weekend, BDSM related searches have seen a significant increase on Pornhub. The charts below trace BDSM related searches during the days leading up to and then immediately following the film’s February 13th release date. When comparing this activity in the US to the rest of the world as well as to women versus men, the specific traffic patterns follow the same general rises and falls, with a few exceptions. Overall, it seems that the press tour leading up to the premiere helped things along a little, with a decent increase in BDSM searches having been observed the weekend before, over the 6th through the 8th of February.

The 13th marks the real threshold though, with searches for words like ‘submission,’ ‘spank,’ and ‘bondage’ among others, increasing in the US by over 20% and by nearly 40% in women. Suffice it to say, our female users have definitely been channeling their inner Anastasia Steele’s.

HANDCUFFS AND FLOGGING AND WHIPS, OH MY!

Now for a look at which specific search terms Pornhub users have been employing to access their new favorite kind of content. Here, action words like ‘submission’ and  ‘dominate,’ top the chart, both having increased in the range of about 50% in searches since the movie premiere. Other tools of the trade type terms like ‘whip,’ ‘master,’ and ‘leather’ all also saw some notable spikes in search activity during this time. According to some research by our friends over at Refinery29, these last 3 words are interestingly some of the most used throughout the 50 Shades novel as well.

FEMME DOMINATION

It’s no secret that the intended audience of both the novel and subsequent film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey is women. Touted for a while now as ‘mommy porn,’ it seems that after having experienced the film women are now looking to have a red room experience of their own, at least according to these numbers. In this last chart, the Pornhub statisticians have whipped up this impressive list of which kinky terms women are more likely to search for than men, proving some dominating female tendencies. Following the release of the 50 Shades film, women appear to be more curious about most BDSM terms, searching upwards of 200% more for certain terms in some cases than prior to the release date. Men have been exploring these new waters as well, with increases closer to the range of 20% having been observed with these same terms. The Pornhub statisticians enjoyed their stint in Spain so much that they decided to head back to the Mediterranean, this time for a look at how Croatia gets down with Pornhub. Boasting breathtaking coastlines and some of the most photographed sunsets in the world, Croatia also has some fascinating porn-related data which we’re gonna delve into right now!

FAST FACTS

In most countries we’ve surveyed, people tend to head to Pornhub in greater numbers as the work week begins to help take the edge off those grueling Mondays, then turn elsewhere for fun once the weekend comes. We’ve observed this trend in Brazil and Germany to name a few, with Croatia now joining the fold. Coming in at 51st place in terms of visitors to Pornhub, Croats hold it down with a respectable 8 minute and 17 second average time on site. This comes in almost a whole minute under the worldwide 9:16 average but Croatia finds itself in good company in terms of lasting power, with nearby Italy getting the job done in around 8:19 on average and India, 8:22. Croatia also comes close to the worldwide proportion of female viewership with their 24% matching Russia‘s and only exceeding the worldwide average by 1%.

Where this country really stands out, however, is when we look at their busiest time of day on the greatest site in the world. Whereas countries like the United Kingdom prefer to get freaky on Pornhub late night, Croats proudly do their thing in the middle of the day with the peak hours occurring between 2-4 pm. The YouPorn statisticians observed a similar trend in Italy as well, so we’ll chalk it up to it being a matter of escaping the scorching afternoon Mediterranean sun and finding refreshment in the form of free porn. Croatia also currently holds the world record for being home to the world’s smallest town, with a mere 23 inhabitants residing in Hum, but like it big when it comes to their porn as made evident by ‘Big Dick’ and ‘Big Tits’ coming in as the 4th and 7th most viewed categories in the country. Croatians also know that the best things in life improve with age as indicated by the MILF category proving to be the most viewed, followed by Mature in third.

MAKE IT LAST

We’ve noticed that in certain countries, a country capital’s average time on site tends to exceed that of the national average as seen in Chile where Santiago exceeds the Chilean average by 14 seconds and Croatian neighbor Hungary, where in Budapest they go for 16 seconds longer than the national average.

Croatia continues this trend, but just barely, as the city of Zagreb has a slim 3 second increase over the national 8:17 though the opposite appears to be true in the county of Zagreb, where visits to Pornhub are cut short by a considerable 42 seconds, marking the largest time on site difference in the country. DESPERATELY SEEKING…MOM PORN

As we’ve seen before in countries like Scotland among others, a country’s top searched term tends to be it’s own nationality. Croatia is no exception with ‘croatian’ coming in strong as the most searched term in the country, joined by ‘croatia’ at 9th place and ‘croatian amateur’ in 17th though both of these are beat out by ‘serbian’ in 8th place, likely because Serbia shares a border with Croatia and Serbs are the leading minority in the country in terms of population demographics. We have also seen this type of neighborly yearning in countries like Estonia, where searches for ‘russian’ proved to be quite popular, as well as in Chile where a high volume of searches for ‘argentina’ were observed.

As we saw earlier when looking at the country’s top viewed categories, Croatians definitely enjoy mature-themed porn. This is reinforced once again when we look to the top searched terms in the country which include ‘MILF,’ ‘mom,’ ‘step mom,’ ‘mature,’ and the crown jewel of all golden-age themed search terms, ‘granny’. In the drop down menu below, which incorporates both top searched terms and porn stars, we’re able to get an idea of what exactly is more popular in each of the country’s 4 major regions.

Though we were expecting to see some more bondage themed searches in the country credited with having invented the necktie, a favorite at-home BDSM prop for many, there are nonetheless some rather fascinating finds here. For one, Croats are seemingly more into porn stars than anything else as, across the board, MILF goddess ‘Lisa Ann‘ (NSFW) and everyone’s favorite porn-turned-reality star Kim Kardashian claim the top and second spots respectively, over other popular descriptors like ‘xxx’ or ‘croatian’. In fact, porn star names here occupy nearly 50% of the list in each region, so let’s hone in on how the hotties rank among themselves.

Again here we see Lisa Ann and Kim K claiming the two top spots, followed closely by the queen of anal herself Asa Akira (NSFW) in third. Internet sensation Mia Khalifa joins the ranks at a respectable 7th place but former playboy bunny and Mrs Hank Baskett herself, Kendra Wilkinson (NSFW), is who really catches our eye in 8th place as we haven’t seen her rank in other countries. Overall, it would appear that Croat tastes tend to be of the American variety as the list is vastly dominated by ladies from the good old US of A. This is perhaps just another indication of a happy relationship between Croatia and the US, the former having provided the latter with white stone from the Island of Brac to build the White House.

HOLIDAY FUN

The holidays always tend  to throw a bit of a wrench in Pornhub traffic. As we observed in our 2014 Year in Review, the biggest dips tend to occur on New Years Eve and around Christmas. Internationally speaking, New Years Eve celebrations generally bring traffic rates down by 44%, whereas this plummets an additional 7% in Croatia with their 51% dip on December 31. We’ve seen these larger traffic dips on this date in other European countries as well such as Hungary and most of Scandinavia.

Christmas Day sends traffic down by a solid 37%, which is almost 20% lower than the international average of just -18%. Again, this higher number compares more similarly to the UK‘s 30% drop. Croats appear to not be overly concerned with practicing abstinence from self love on St-Stephen’s Day, as the holiday commemorated to the original martyr actually sees traffic increases of 10% rather than inspiring a sacrificing of some time on the best site in the world.

Last but not least we’ve got a breakdown of Croatian Pornhub traffic by platform. Croats aren’t overly into tablet technology when it comes to perusing Pornhub, as made evident by only 4% of traffic appearing to originate from this type of device. Rather, they tend to enjoy the best kind of personal time from the comfort of their PC’s, which takes us a significant 57% of traffic shares here, compared to the worldwide 44%. Mobile traffic in Croatia is 6% lower than that of the international average of 45% at 39%, though this does account for a good number of Croats taking their porn to go nonetheless.

The Pornhub statisticians are getting down with demographics once more, today focusing specifically on age. The data we’re about to present is truly some of the most fascinating we’ve amassed to date and sheds new light on notions of age and sexuality. As a special collaboration with our friends over at Vocativ, we’re coming at you today with the data to prove that age ain’t nothing but a number.

HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU FIRST…

Let’s begin with a broad overview of what Pornhub’s viewership looks like, by age group. For the purposes of this post, we have divided our data into 6 age groups, specifically 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 and 65+ and are making use of  anonymized demographics data provided by our analytics software. In other words, none of the data presented here derives from Pornhub user accounts. We have found that 35.3 years old is the average age of a Pornhub user whereas the worldwide median age is currently 29.7. Among our male users, the average age is 36, while our average female viewer is 34 years old. In terms of sheer numbers, the 18-24 age group is the most populated of the 6 at just over 30%, with the percentages gradually shrinking as the categories increase with age. This same trend continues when examining these same proportions but in regards to gender, though what really stands out here is the 18-24 group once again. For both males and females, this youngest of the divisions is the most populated but there is a significant 5% more women in this grouping.

Here we expand more on the average age of our viewer, by taking a look at how this figure varies across some of the countries that visit Pornhub the most. There is a solid 10 year range here, with Japan at one extreme at 41.1 years being the age of their average viewer, and India at the other with 30.3 years proving to be the age of their average viewer. Aside from Japan, it appears that the majority of our older viewers on this spectrum are located in central Europe, and the younger mostly in south Asia.

Here we have a breakdown of these same countries in terms of what their Pornhub viewing population looks like when broken down into our 6 main age groups. Again, we can see that south Asian countries like India, Vietnam and the Philippines all have considerable proportions of their respective viewership in the 18-24 range while Japan and a slew of central European countries like the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and Belgium all  have decent representation in the 65+ group. The proportions of these groupings make sense when compared to the demographies of these countries. For instance, over 50% of India’s population is under the age of 25, while in Japan over 25% of the population is age 65 and older.

As a starting point, these numbers give us a general idea of how age proportions breakdown on a global scale. In the heat map below, however, we’re able to see what the age of the average Pornhub viewer looks like country by country. The way that these proportions change within each nation is fascinating, but we’ve noticed a few that really stood out. Once again, in certain south Asian countries like Bangladesh and India,  upwards of 50% of Pornhub viewers fall into the 18-24 category while in Eastern Europe, countries like Russia, Slovakia and Lithuania have over 40% of their viewership in the 25-34 range.

Our attention was really drawn back over to Asia in regards to their proportions of 65+ users. Countries such as Cambodia, Laos and Burma all have over 10% of their viewership proportions in this group. As the country with the highest life expectancy in the world, Japan really stands out here, with a solid 9% of their viewership belonging to the most senior of the groups. Eat your seaweed y’all!

Over in the US, it appears that older viewers are found within the country’s 4 corners. Older aged viewers are found in greater amounts around the perimeter, with younger viewers located more centrally.

These heat maps help illustrate this more concretely. As we can see in the heat map below, the highest concentration of older Pornhub viewers are located within New England. Specifically, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont are home to some of our more senior American viewers, with other sizable pockets located in Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, Oregon and Montana.

LIFELONG DESIRES

Here we are going to hone in on what it is exactly that people of varying ages search for on the best site in the world. The 18-24 group is devoid of any group sex type searches but is heavy on the mom and step relative type terms like ‘step mom’, ‘milf’, ‘mom’ and ‘stepsister’. Our young adults have seemingly graduated to a more mature type of Saturday morning cartoon as ‘cartoon’ and ‘hentai’ also feature in the group’s top 10. ‘Massage’ doesn’t make an appearance as a top term among our youngest users but starts in at number 6 in both the 25-34 and 35-44 groups then moves up in popularity as ages increase, coinciding with increased likeliness of joint-related aches and pains. The reverse can be said about ‘squirt’ in that it is a popular search for the 18-24 and 25-34 crowds but doesn’t rank in the age groups beyond, signaling that watersports aren’t terribly popular among older crowds.

‘Smoking’ is only really of interest to the middle aged crowd and ‘granny’ is only really searched for those who have either entered or are approaching retirement age. Some interesting trends can also be observed when looking at the top viewed categories for each age group. The ‘Teen’ category dominates the top spot across the board until the 65+ group, where ‘Mature’ takes over, indicating that as people age, they are more and more interested in content that is more representative of who they are. This is further reinforced by the fact that the ‘Mature’ category doesn’t appear until we look to the 45-54 group, where it then climbs in popularity until it hits #1 with the 65+ group. The ‘MILF’ category is also more popular in the 35-65+ crowd, versus the 34-18 bunch.

Another interesting way at looking at how these search preferences vary by age is by looking at which age groups are more likely to search for certain terms in regards to others. For this next chart, we’ve clustered the 6 age groups into 3 in order to be able to observe more sweeping trends. For starters, it’s clear that the 18-34 aged users are more porn star oriented than their older counterparts, as 60% of the list here is comprised of prominent industry names. This same age group is also more likely to be using social media technologies such as Twitter and Instagram, which several of these porn stars use to engage with and build their fan bases.

Over in the middle aged group, porn stars wane a little in popularity but those that do make the cut are definitely indicative of their age group. Leading ladies of yesteryear,  Traci Lords and Jenna Jameson are 822% and 29% more likely to be searched for by the 35-54 group than the other 2, respectively. Perhaps suffering from some considerable 7+ year itch, the middle aged group are also seemingly very interested in content featuring wives and various ‘spicing up the marriage’ type scenarios. In other words, there is a strong interest here in watching other people’s wives get to work. Our 55+ group is all about embracing old age. Searches like ‘very very old granny,’ ‘soft,’ ‘hairy pussy,’ and ‘hairy’ showing significantly more popularity here again indicates that older people are more drawn to visual representations of bodies that are more like their own, perhaps now less than traditionally ‘perfect’ bodies. The following chart illustrates this same trend in another way.

When we isolated these same age groups and focused specifically on how they search for ‘teen’ themed content versus ‘MILF’ type material, it’s clear that as the older people get, the more they search for porn featuring older talent. This is observed especially in the United States, which, as we learned in our 2014 Year In Review is where the most significant portion of Pornhub traffic comes from. Though when observed on a global scale the trend isn’t as definitive, it is clear that ‘MILF’ is vastly more searched for than ‘teen’ and the popularity of the latter does increase slightly with each age group.

SWEET LONGEVITY

With age and experience comes enviable lasting power. While none of the age groups here can really accurately be accused of being one minute (wo)men, it’s nonetheless clear that the older one gets, the longer they last. The 18-34 crowd finish up on Pornhub a little prematurely in regards to the international 9:16 average time on site. 35 appears to be the tipping point in that this is where visit duration begins to extend beyond 9:16, then hitting the 10 minute mark with the 45+ crowd. Perhaps retirement affords more time to spend doing the things you enjoy or older age requires a little more time to to get the engine going, we can’t say for sure. However you choose to spin it though, older people just have what it takes to make the good times last.

Lastly, we have a basic breakdown of how each age group accesses Pornhub in terms of device. At a glance, it’s clear that the younger the Pornhub user, the more likely they are to be using a smartphone to access the site. The reverse is true about desktop, in that the older one is, the more likely they are to be logging on from a computer. This could easily be dismissed as a generational difference in terms of technological abilities, but tablet use throws a sizable wrench into that theory. As seen in the chart below, older Pornhub users are using their tablets more and more, which aligns with a trend observed in a recent study carried out by the Guardian. Essentially, tablet use is hugely on the rise among the elderly due to the fact that more older people are getting online to begin with. Perhaps the ease of use combined with comfortable size are what make tablets and attractive choice for older Pornhub users.

Are you a dick? Or maybe you’re more of a cock person. Either way, everyone has their preferred term of endearment for what is more clinically called the penis. In today’s installment of Pornhub Insights, our trusty team of statisticians is diving deep into some big, hard data to get to the bottom of how people prefer to refer to the phallus. Focusing on the two most popular dicknames nicknames ‘dick’ and ‘cock,’ we’re coming at you with the numbers that show exactly how the nation pays lip service to everyone’s favorite organ. Let’s get into some dong-themed nomenclature!

LAND OF THE PEEN

The heat map below indicates that America primarily loves cock. Here at Pornhub HQ, it’s been argued that depending whether you’re in the heat of the moment or telling a joke, one’s use of ‘dick’ and ‘cock’ may change. In other words, context is everything. Seemingly when porn searches are involved though, cock reigns supreme. Of the 50 states, an overwhelming 37 choose ‘cock’ first when perusing pornhub for some dong-centric content.

Interestingly, the Pornhub users that love ‘dick’ more are located in the south-eastern states and by some miracle bestowed unto us by the data gods, a decidedly phallic shape on the heat map sets these users apart from the rest of the cock-loving nation.

DESPERATELY SEEKING DICK

We’re going to call it once and for all; size matters. A look at this list of the top searches that make use of everyone’s two favorite words couldn’t make this more evident. As you can see with the first word groupings here, the majority of phallic-focused searches are all about that big.

Interestingly, most of the words used to describe ‘cock’ are affiliated with gargantuan size with words like ‘big,’ ‘huge, and ‘monster’ taking the lead as well as ‘black’. On the other hand, ‘dick’ has more action words affiliated to it like ‘twerk’ and ‘riding’. While ‘big dick’ tops the list here overall, the points for littleness definitely go to team dick in that ‘small dick’ and ‘tiny dick’ both make it in the top searches here, while only mammoth-sized qualifiers are used to reference cock. The word clouds below illustrate this more concretely.

SHE LOVES THE D

Last but not least we’ve collected gender-segmented data from Google Analytics’ anonymized demographics reports to determine that the women of Pornhub love dick. When hunting on Pornhub, women employ the word ‘dick’ more often than ‘cock,’ while the reverse is true for men, according to our numbers. Though overall women do search for ‘cock’ a solid 19% more than men, their love for the D is reaffirmed in their whopping 52% more likeliness to search for ‘dick’ then their male counterparts.

The Pornhub statisticians just can’t seem to quit Scandinavia. After stints in both Norway and Finland, we couldn’t help but be curious about the Pornhub habits of the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Denmark. As a continuation of our quest to unearth porn stats in all corners of the world, we’re digging deep into that Danish Pornhub data to see how the country that brought us LEGO gets down with the best site in the world – let’s get started!

REALLY GREAT, DANES!

The country that ranks 31st worldwide in terms of how many visitors it brings to Pornhub happens to have a rather high proportion of female viewers, 28% to be exact according to our anonymized demographics data provided by our analytics software. At an impressive 5 percentage points over the the 23% worldwide average, Denmark joins the ranks here with countries like Brazil and Argentina, whose female viewer proportions stand strong at 28% and 29% respectively. As we mentioned in our 2014 year in review, certain countries that ranked highly on the Global Gender Gap Report, such as Finland and the Phillippines also appeared to have a relatively high proportion of female viewers. Ranking at 5th place of 142 countries, Denmark appears to be further proving our theory.

Interestingly, Denmark also breaks the mold when it comes to when they are most and least active on the site. Again as seen in the 2014 Year in Review, Mondays tend to be when people flock to Pornhub, likely to ease into the start of the work week. Sundays are actually the busiest day for Pornhub in Denmark, possibly because they don’t feel the sting of the work week starting as badly, in that this country actually boasts one of the shortest work weeks in the world at an average of only 33 hours.

If that’s not enough to inspire patriotism, these search terms just might. As we have seen in several countries before like Croatia and the Czech Republic, a country’s most popular search terms tend to be oriented around it’s nationality. Denmark again proves this to be true with ‘danish’ leading as the top searched term in the country by far, followed by ‘danish amateur,’ ‘danish milf’ and ‘danish teen’ all finding themselves within the country’s top searched terms.

The Danes also show some pride in regards to their own when it comes to the adult industry. Though everyone’s favorite porn turned reality star Kim Kardashian tops the list, Danish dames Denice Klarskov and Katja Kean both rank within their homeland’s top 20 most searched for stars. Support your local porn stars!

DANE AND DASH

As indicated in the quick stats graphic we started out with, Danes get the job done in around 8 minutes and 40 seconds when they log on to Pornhub. This clocks in at over 30 seconds quicker than the international 9:16 average, but there is quite a range when we look at average session durations throughout the Kingdom. For instance, over in the coastal city of Aabenraa, sessions last a whole 24 seconds less than the national average. According to our research, the city has a significant German population, so this lower than average time may have to do with these expats keeping true to the German 8 minute average session time.

Over in the capital city of Copenhagen, they go for an additional 8 seconds but it’s the market town of Frederikssund that really takes the cake with their nearly 30 second gain over the national average. Home to the annual Viking Games, this quaint part of the country’s average session duration nearly matches the global 9:16 average.

DANISH DOWNTIME

The holidays tend to cause some pretty significant traffic drops on Pornhub. 2014’s Year in Review proved that on average, traffic slows by around 44% on New Year’s Eve and around 40% on Christmas Eve. Much like the Netherlands and neighboring Sweden, Denmark’s drops are significantly more drastic on these holidays, at 81% and 78% dips respectively. Resurrections of a different type are being celebrated on Easter Monday however, where traffic actually increases by a notable 15%

We’ll finish off here with a look at Pornhub traffic shares in Denmark by device. Though the Danes are a significant 10% below the worldwide average for smartphone use, they beat out the international average for tablet traffic shares by a significant 6%. Only the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia had really comparable market shares in this regard, but portable porn is something we should all be embracing!

The Pornhub statisticians took a break from their celebrations to look at how Saint Patrick’s Day affected traffic to Pornhub and the type of porn that people were looking to get lucky with. After the results of our Valentines and Christmas holiday reviews, we were expecting a pot of statistical gold from Saint Pat, and we weren’t disappointed.

The Luck of the Irish

Two major trends stood out on Saint Patrick’s Day. Searches including the words “luck” and “lucky” were up 260% and searches with the word “Irish” were up an incredible 625%! What does leprechaun sex look like? We’re honestly afraid to look. But after a few drinks, it seems to be the question asked by a lot of Pornhub viewers. Searches for “leprechaun” increased an incredible 9325% compared to an average day!

Next up was “St Patricks Day” at 5904% and in 4th place “Saint Patrick” at 4948%. Much of the list includes common Pornhub search terms combined with “Irish” like “Irish Creampie” (5220%), “Irish Anal” (1429%), “Irish Teen” (1016%) and “Irish Lesbians” (1100%). Other popular searches are combined with the word “green” like “green panties” (231%) and “green hair” (149%).

Irish Increases

Without a doubt Saint Patrick’s Day causes a major uptick in Irish themed porn interests. But as we can see from the following chart, searches for “Irish” begin to rise a few days before March 17th, and then drop off sharply after. They reach of peak of 7.25x the daily average.

United Kingdom Traffic

Saint Patrick’s Day is a bank holiday only in some parts of the United Kingdom. In England, Whales and Scotland, where St-Pat’s celebrations happen at night, we see only minor changes to the day’s Pornhub traffic.

In Ireland and Northern Ireland, where most people enjoy the day off, traffic increases to Pornhub. Visits are up 11% in Northern Ireland and 5% in Ireland.

By the Hour

Finally we take a look at traffic by the hour from Ireland, the United Kingdom (excluding Ireland) and the United States. In the follow chart, times are adjusted to their local timezones (Eastern time in the case of the United States) and the traffic change is compared to an average day and time.

In anticipation of the celebrations, traffic in Ireland is up 55% in the wee hours, but returns to normal by 6am. It increases steadily from 8am to 2pm, but then drops 15% below average by 6pm. In the United Kingdom, traffic fluctuates throughout the day, but drops in the evening after 6pm. In the United States we see a much higher increase throughout the day – up to 8% over normal, but then a steady drop from 6pm to midnight.

East Asia has been on the Pornhub Statistician’s to-do list for a little while now. While most of our recent jaunts have been to European countries like Denmark and Croatia, we have made it our mission to leave no stone unturned when it comes to getting the cold hard porno facts out to our dedicated following. As such, today’s report accounts for an in depth look at how the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea gets freaky with the best site in the world, so let’s get into it!

MAKE IT QUICK

Efficiency is the name of the game in the country that ranks 238th for most visitors to Pornhub worldwide. As we saw in the 2014 Year in Review, the international average time spent on site is 9 minutes and 16 seconds, with around 7.6 pages viewed per session. These numbers are significantly slashed in North Korea where visits last a mere 1 minute and 48 seconds on average, with around 1.83 page views. You can’t beat that kind of potency! Work weeks in North Korea operate a little differently than in countries like the United Kingdom and Canada, where folks rush to Pornhub on Mondays the most, to help ease in to the long week ahead, but then tapers off a little in numbers on Fridays when the weekend arrives. North Korea actually inverts these days, giving a whole new meaning to weekend warrior. Speaking of which, marijuana is totally legal in NK – party on!

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has a little catching up to do in regards to their female viewership, which adds up to less than 2% of overall Pornhub viewers in the country. Women account for 23% of Pornhub viewers on a global scale – join the fun, women of North Korea! They do seem to like their ladies on the thicker side, as made evident by the BBW category claiming the second highest number of views in the land. Not far off is the Uniforms category in at number 6, which comes as no surprise in the country that ranks 5th in the world for army size.

SUPER SEXY SEARCHES

Did you know that former North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il was known by several different names, one of which being The Eternal Bosom of Hot Love? These are said to have been attributed to him by world leaders and other admirers of high stature. Unsurprisingly, the country which was once ruled by a man bearing this pseudonym has some pretty racy searches on Pornhub. Topping off the list are current leader ‘Kim Jong-Un’ and ‘Korean,’ which are typical enough, in that most countries feature their own nationalities in their top searches, as we’ve seen in the likes of Brazil and India. Things continue on the patriotic streak with searches for ‘Pyongyang teens’ as well as a few neighborly nods with terms like ‘japanese milf’ and ‘mongolian’.

Searches really heat up a little further down the list with results like ‘tweark,’ a local dance of seduction, as well as ‘advanced warfare’ and ‘destroy bush,’ showing that North Koreans mean business in the bedroom. No garden variety vanilla sex happening here! A recent visit from basketball star turned American ambassador Denis Rodman snagged the NBA legend a spot on the list, as well as foxy former first lady Hillary Clinton, but lets take a look at which real porn stars are making waves in North Korea.

While it’s actually illegal to wear jeans in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, it doesn’t matter much because the country’s list of top searched porn stars clearly indicates that North Koreans sure know how to pick their preferred naked ladies.  Czech blonde babe Abigaile Johnson takes first place, followed closely by the Great Leader of porn himself, Mandingo. Several Japanese gems like Ai Uehara, Yui-Hatano and Ria Sakurai rank highly while porn legends Kim Kardashian, Ron Jeremy and Lisa Ann close out the second half of the top 15.

LET’S TALK TECH

North Korea is one of the only countries in the world with it’s own operating system for desktop computers, and we hear that Red Star OS is actually pretty great. As such, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that a whopping 94% of Pornhub traffic derives from desktop, a solid 50 percent points over the international 44% average. That’s some patriotism!

While we’re on the topic, let’s take a look at which Operating Systems reign supreme in North Korea. Repping the homeland with a strong 78% of market shares is Red Star OS, with 45% attributed to version 2.5 and 33% to version 3. Classics Windows NT and Vista account for most of the remaining 22% proving that a real ‘if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it’ ethos operates within the Republic.

Last but not least is a breakdown of which web browsers prove to be people’s choice in the PDRK. Towards the beginning of our report, we provided a list of the country’s top viewed categories, on which ‘Vintage’ ranked in at an impressive 5th place. Retro-chic strikes again in this list on most popular web browsers, with Internet Explorer 7 claiming 43% of the market shares, and IE6 nabbing 37%.

Easter is the most important of the Christian holidays in that it commemorates Christ dying then subsequently resurrecting for the saving and forgiveness of all mankind. No small feat! Here at Pornhub however, our  research is generally oriented towards the types of resurrections that take place in our viewer’s pants, but today’s post happily marries the two. The Pornhub statisticians made like kids on Easter morning and searched high and low to bring you the data that shows how people all over the world get down with Pornhub on this highest of holidays, so let’s hop to it!

A DIFFERENT KIND OF EASTER EGG HUNT

As we’ve seen before over Christmas and during St. Patrick’s Day, Pornhub viewers are a festive bunch when it comes to top  seasonal search terms. According to the data we collected from 2014’s spring holiday weekend, Easter is no different. Over the course of Easter weekend last year, terms like ‘easter,’ ‘easter bunny’ and ‘bunny costume’ were among the most popular holiday-holiday themed searches, followed by slightly more sinful terms like ‘church’ and ‘christian’. All this with no reports of spontaneous blindness or hairy palms from our dedicated viewer base so take that, bible!

In terms of the Easter weekend’s top gaining terms, some trends were definitely observed. For starters, searches containing ‘easter’ were up an astounding 2130% in popularity over the holiday and up 845% for searches containing the word ‘bunny’. Combine the two terms and you’ve got ‘easter bunny’ which itself as a search term was up a whopping 3240%. Pornhub viewers didn’t put all of their eggs into these baskets alone though, as again, lots of religious themed searches made the cut as well, namely ‘amateur church sex,’  ‘girl in church’ and ‘lesbian church ladies’ up 2130%, 1820% and 530% respectively. No Catholic guilt here, folks!

HOPS IN TRAFFIC

People celebrate the zombification of Jesus in a whole bunch of different ways. Some tell their kids that a giant costumed rabbit has broken into their home in the middle of the night and hidden chocolate throughout the house which they are in turn encouraged to search for. Others spend the day with family, attending mass and feasting on lamb. Our personal favorite is when the parishioners  of Pornhub come together to cause interesting traffic patterns as a result of what they get up to on the best site in the world during certain holidays. Below is a chart illustrating another way that Easter interrupted the day to day happenings on Pornhub, with searches containing the word ‘easter’ shooting up by 48 times the daily average on April 20th of last year:

Last but not least is a more in depth look at how the Easter holiday affects traffic in the top 20 countries with the most visitors to Pornhub. Compared to end of year holidays like Christmas Eve which sees traffic drops of around 38% in the US and New Years Eve, when traffic drops by around 44% internationally, Easter overall only causes traffic to drop by around 11% on average, throughout the world. This definitely fluctuates from country to country, however, as noted in our 2014 Year in Review.

Topping off our list here is Romania where the most notable drops were observed on Good Friday as well as Easter Sunday and Monday, with an average 22% dip in traffic over the course of the holy weekend. Clearly Easter is a big national holiday for Romanians, who actually celebrate Orthodox Easter, which happened to line up with Catholic Easter last year. Drops of as much as 27% on Easter Sunday were noted in the home of the Vatican, Italy, whereas in the US, drops of only 3% on average were recorded. Over in India, a slight increase of 3% was observed over Easter weekend last year, though this makes sense in a country which is nearly 80% Hindu.

It’s been said that Italy has more masterpieces per square mile than any country in the world, so the Pornhub statisticians decided to see for themselves. Turns out it’s true! While excavating this historic land for all of its porn related data as a part of a special collab with our friends over at fanpage.it, we found that the country credited for having invented the thermometer really knows how to heat things up. Aside from all of the museums and ancient architecture, Italy really stuns when it comes to how they get down with the best site in the world. Let’s boot on over!

LIKE A FINE VINO

Over 60% of Italy’s national income comes from tourism, which makes sense given that it is the 4th most visited country in the world. The country ranks high on Pornhub’s list too, in that they rank 7th for most visitors to Pornhub. It’s nice to see that Pornhub is so popular in the country credited for bringing us game changing inventions like pizza or the piano. Speaking of which, it should also be noted that Italian is widely known as the language of music in that words like lentissimo and staccato are used for music direction. In regards to the amount of time that the average Italian user spends on Pornhub, the 8 minute and 19 second session is rather rapido when compared to the international 9:16 average length.

According to our anonymized demographics data provided by our analytics software, 20% of Pornhub visitors in Italy are female, which is 3 percentage points below the international 23% proportion. Seems like a bit of a pepperoni party, join the fun ladies of Italy! The birthplace of pizza does impress us with their top viewed category, which is a nod towards their ability to appreciate that things tend to get better with age. The Mature category tops off the list, followed by Teen and then a little further down in 5th, Big Tits, inspired perhaps by the fact that 80% of the country’s terrain is hilly or mountainous. Comparatively, nearby Croatia also appreciates a slightly older crowd with regards to their top viewed categories, with MILF coming in first and Mature coming in second, though in countries like the Czech Republic and the USA, Teen reigns supreme. Let’s jump back to Italy’s affinity with age for a second though.

As we reported on our post pertaining to age demographics, as people grow older, they tend to watch porn that is more representative of themselves. Depicted above is a breakdown of Italy’s Pornhub viewers by age, compared to the worldwide proportions. As we can see, Italy has higher numbers of viewers in older categories, which likely has to do with why the Mature category is so popular. Comparatively, in countries like India which has a much higher proportion of younger viewers, the Teen category ranks considerably higher than Mature.

PAISAN PRIDE

We’ve seen it before and we’ll see it again; in virtually every country Pornhub has profiled, the top searches tend to relate to that country’s nationality. People in countries like Croatia, the Czech Republic and Brazil tend to search for their own countrymen (and women) the most, and Italy very much follows suit. ‘Italian’ tops the list as the most searched term, followed a little further down by ‘italiana,’ ‘italia’ and ‘italiano’. We also see some mature themed searches towards the top of the list like ‘milf’ and ‘mom’ in second and third place respectively, which again likely has to do with the nation’s higher proportion of older viewers. The real kicker here is the prevalence of podiatry-related searches like ‘footjob’ and ‘feet’…then again the country is shaped like a giant boot so the fetish is understandable.

Italy is famous for it’s fashion houses. Labels like Valentino, Armani, Versace, Gucci and Prada are known for outfitting the world’s A-listers, but we’re a little more interested in which XXX-listers Italians most prefer to admire sans clothing. Industry goddess Lisa Ann (NSFW) claims the number one spot but Italy is one of the key European hubs for porn production and as such, is home to many popular performers who also rank highly. Take for instance stunner Valentina Nappi (NSFW) in at 2nd place or Sara Tommasi (NSFW)in third, with the most notorious Italian stallion of all, Rocco Siffredi (NSFW) taking 4th.

REGIONAL RANGE

There are vast cultural differences from one region to another in the country, a fact which is also reflected in the considerable differences in lasting time from one area to the other. For instance, in Campania, the national 8:19 average time drops by a whopping 40 seconds. The region is however home to some of the most breathtaking sites in the world, namely the famed Amalfi Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the Island of Capri so it’s very well possible that the inhabitants are spending a little more time taking in the sights elsewhere than on Pornhub.

Over in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, visits to Pornhub actually last an average of 14 seconds longer than 8:19, perhaps due to the fact that the region is understood as being a primary socioeconomic connector to Central and Eastern Europe due to it’s border-sharing location. That’s a lot of pressure, but there’ s no better way to beat stress than by an extended visit to Pornhub! Let’s take a look now at how the Holidays affect Pornhub traffic in the country.

As we saw in our 2014 Year in Review, New Year’s Eve is a major interrupter in terms of the effect that the holiday has on Pornhub traffic. The effect was especially prominent in European countries like Sweden and the Netherlands which each saw near 70% dips in traffic on average, though Italy isn’t very far behind with it’s considerable 59% drop. In our recent report on Pornhub traffic during Easter, Italy was proved to be one of the countries most affected by the holiday with it’s notable 27% drop, though it seems that Italians prefer to celebrate Liberation Day by spending a little more time on Pornhub as made evident by the slight 3% increase in traffic on this day.

VENI VIDI DEVICE

We’ll close off with a look at which devices Italians prefer to peruse Pornhub with. Italy is on the same page with most of the rest of the world in terms of tablet use, in that they match the international 11% traffic proportion rate. They’re a little less into watching porn on their smartphones than the rest of the world as demonstrated by their higher rates for desktop usage and the lower proportion of traffic deriving from phone use. Overall, Italian traffic proportion rates closely resemble those of Spain, also in the Mediterranean.

Olá from beautiful Portugal! With recent trips to Spain and Italy under our belts, we couldn’t wait to get back to work in this part of the world, so as a part of an exclusive collab with our friends at Jornal de Negocios the Pornhub statisticians gave Europe’s westernmost country a thorough top to bottom exam. The results are in, so let’s take a look at how the Portuguese get down with the best site in the world. 

PORTUGAL AT A GLANCE

Let’s start off with a quick overview of some of the initial data that stood out during our research. First off, Portugal joins countries like the United Kingdom and the United States in a trend that we observed during the compiling of our 2014 Year in Review, wherein the most visits to Pornhub tend to occur towards the beginning of the week, then slow slightly just as the weekend hits. Portugal also appears to get the job done a little faster than the rest of the world, as their 8 minute and 36 second average time on site shaves a solid 40 seconds off of the 9:16 worldwide average.

The country that ranks 46th for most visitors to Pornhub wins some girl power points with their strong 25% proportion of female viewers beating out the worldwide average by a notable 2 percentage points. India and Russia boast similar figures in regards to their gender proportions, according to the anonymized demographics data provided by our analytics software. Though the ‘Teen’ category tops the list for most viewed in the land, it appears that the oldest country in Europe definitely has a thing for the older crowd too, as made evident by the ‘MILF’ and ‘Mature’ categories nabbing the 2nd and 3rd place slots. Speaking of age, let’s take a look at Portugal’s traffic breakdown by age group.

These two charts compare Portugal’s age proportions with world averages. Clearly, the two are quite similar, with slight differences noted in the 18-24 and 35-44 age groups, meaning that Portugal’s profile here closely resembles those of countries like Italy and Canada, as opposed to others like India which has a much higher proportion of younger viewers, or Japan, which has higher numbers of older visitors.

PORTUGAL’S TOP PICKS

Virtually every time that we analyze a specific country’s top searched terms on Pornhub, that country’s nationality will generally show up high on the list. People enjoy watching what their fellow country folk get up to in the bedroom, and we’ve seen this happen everywhere from Denmark to Mexico. This is definitely also the case in Portugal, with nearly half of the top 20 searched terms featuring a variant on the country’s name, including ‘tuga’ in second place, a slang word used by the Portuguese in self-reference.

What really stands out on this list are search terms ‘brazilian’ and ‘brazil’. We’ve seen instances of countries having searches involving their neighbors like with Chile and Argentina or Scotland and England, but this is something we’re observing for the first time on Insights. Brazil is, of course, one of Portugal’s largest and most prominent former colonies, where Portuguese remains the official language. Portugal appears to check in regularly with Brazil’s bedroom antics, though according to our our previous research on the country, Brazil is kind of into it’s own thing for now. Let’s move on to which porn stars the world leaders in cork production pop one off to the most.

MILF queen Lisa Ann (NSFW) tops off the list here, followed by porn star turned reality goddess Kim Kardashian in second place. It’s hard to say whether Portugal’s sweetest export is their famed Porto wine, or blonde bombshell Erica Fontes (NSFW), but the latter nabs 3rd place for her homeland’s most searched for porn star on Pornhub. For the most part though, it seems that the Portuguese prefer porn stars hailing from the other side of the pond, with American babes like Brandi Love (NSFW), Christy Mack (NSFW) and Sasha Grey (NSFW) making up most of the list.

RACE TO THE FINISH

Though the average time on site in Portugal is just over 8 and a half minutes, this figure varies considerably from region to region. For instance, in northern  Viana do Castelo the average time on site dips by a considerable 23 seconds. This is perhaps because the region is home to an important naval repair facility so folks up there are likely spending a little more time preventing the next Titanic, leaving them with a little less time to spend on Pornhub. In the capital region of Lisbon on the other hand, visits are extended by 15 seconds.

Major changes in weather like Storm Juno in the US and sporting events like the World Cup have also proven to affect the way that people use Pornhub. Another one of these major influencers happens to be holidays like Christmas and Easter, when many of our regular viewers are perhaps traveling or spending time with family, causing traffic to drop.

In Portugal, the most notable change occurs on Christmas Eve with a staggering 66% drop in traffic, compared to just 38% on the same day in the United States. Traffic also drops by a considerable 60% on New Years Eve, which is close to the 59% and 56% drops we’ve recorded in Italy and Brazil.

TECH TALK

We’ll sign off with a quick look at which devices the Portuguese prefer to use when they’re checking out Pornhub. As far as tablets are concerned, Portugal is well aligned with the rest of the world in that 10% of their traffic originates from these types of devices, vs 11% on a global level.

Much like countries such as Germany and and Brazil, however, the Portuguese are still diehard PC fans for the most part, as some 63% of traffic comes from computers, meaning that just 27% originates from smartphones. In our 2014 Year in Review, we noted that mobile usage had increased considerably from the year before, so it will be interesting to see if this trend will carry over to Portugal when we wrap up at the end of this year.

France is one hell of a country. When Pornhub found out that the French have been statistically proven to be the most frequently sexually active people on the planet, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on some exclusive porno stats pertaining to this gorgeous Western-European country, and we’re bringing you the best of our findings today as a part of a special collaboration with Lui Magazine. In fact, pornography as we know it owes quite a bit to the French, who are credited with the invention of both photography and cinema.

Considering that worldwide, France clocks in at an impressive 5th place for the number of daily visitors to the site, Pornhub’s lettre d’amour to this country is long overdue. Let’s begin!

Monday Funday

Nothing beats a case of the Mondays like some quality time spent on the largest adult site in the world, so it’s no surprise that the French are most active on Pornhub on the first day of each week. Everybody’s working for the weekend in France too, but they’re not spending it on Pornhub with Saturdays showing the slowest traffic rates on average.

Interestingly enough, November is the slowest month for Pornhub in France. The eleventh month of the year can be a pretty brutal one in other parts of the world with the beginnings of bad winter weather pushing many to clock more time with their keyboards and kleenex but the French are seemingly less dependent on porn during this time. The lovely month of May is when they prefer to get busy.

Stay a While

The average French worker has 30 days of paid vacation every year, so you’d think they’d have plenty of time to visit their favorite Porn site. But compared to the rest of the world they’re pretty average at 9 minutes and 8.5 pages viewed.

To put that into perspective, the United Kingdom goes for 9 minutes 42 seconds whereas the Germans and Belgians come up a bit short at only 8 minutes. Americans, who generally measure everything in football field terms, reach their end zone in 10 minutes.

The cost of living in Paris is extremely high, clocking in at number 2 worldwide. It clearly takes a certain balance and joie de vivre to survive in the city of lights, as the capital is where both the average number of page visits and amount of time spent on the site are highest, at 8.74 and 9:39 respectively. Work hard, fap harder.

Conversely, Nantes, which is located on the country’s northwestern coast, is where these numbers are the lowest at 8.24 average pages viewed per visit and approximately 8 minutes and 47 seconds spent on the site. Perhaps the extreme tidal forces that this city is known for are pulling the inhabitants away from their PCs. They seem to be able to find what they’re looking for in picturesque Poitiers, where they only visit an average of 8.39 pages a visit but spend a considerable 9 minutes and 12 seconds on average on the site.

The Résultats Are In

A glance at the top searched terms here, paints quite the patriotic picture. The French are apparently fans of their own, local flavors with the search term ‘french’ topping off the list with a significant tour de force. We’ve noticed the same trend around the world where people tend to search for their own nationality or ethnicity more than other terms. For example, Germans search for ‘German’ and Mexicans search for ‘Mexicana’.

Neighboring Switzerland have also taken a liking to France with ‘French’ closing out the top 3 most searched terms by the Swiss. Interestingly absent from the leading search terms in France is ‘smoking’, which is quite popular in neighboring Belgium and the act of which is a favorite French pastime.

France is also home to the Canal du Midi, the oldest canal in all of Europe. Incidentally, when you remove the ‘c’ from canal you get ‘anal’ which is another popular search term in this beautiful nation — but they still don’t come anywhere close to the world’s number one anal seekers the Russians. The French were also the first to decriminalize partners of the same sex getting it on all the way back in 1791 so it seems fitting that ‘lesbian’ remains within the top search terms across the board.

The Champagne-Ardenne region of France is where the only sparkling wine in the world that is legally allowed to be called Champagne comes from. Inhabitants of this mountainous region also appear to have a bit of an Arab fetish, with search term ‘beurette’ closing out the top 3 most searched terms in this area. The Pornhub statisticians thought that there was perhaps a strong sexual attraction to some sort of delicious butter-based pastry going on here but in fact, ‘beurette’ is a French slang word for an attractive North African Arab woman. Things get a little more sensual in the region of Limousin, not to be confused with the luxury sedan, where ‘massage’ makes its way into the top 4.

Who do the French Find Foxy?

The national pride is strong once again when we take a look at which of pornography’s finest the French are stroking their baguettes to. Homegirls Clara Morgane and Kitsuni pretty much dominate across the board but a bunch of of American babes made the cut here too. The French have been sending their babes to the US ever since 1886 when Mrs. Liberty and her buns of steel arrived. Americans are still returning the favor with the likes of Madison Ivy (NSFW) and Christy Mack (NSFW).

Fapping During the Fêtes

Pornhub traffic slows down significantly during the holiday season, the biggest hit occurring on New Year’s Eve with a near 30% drop. Interestingly enough, 3 holidays actually see rises over average traffic rates in France. Of note are May Day, where the extra maypole stroking results in a 15.8% increase, Whit Monday during which the surplus white-stuff explosions gain an impressive 19.5% increase in traffic and lastly, Ascencion day where rising trouser tents account for 11.9% more French traffic on Pornhub.

After stints in Hungary and Moldova, the Pornhub statisticians are back in Eastern Europe for an in depth look at how the people of Romania do Pornhub. Today’s post is part of a special collab with our friends over at ziarulring.ro so we’re setting off to do what we do best and bring you the cold hard porno facts on the country that ranks 20th for most visitors to Pornhub. Let’s go!

RACY ROMANIANS

When we compiled the data for our 2014 Year in Review, we found that worldwide, the average visit to Pornhub lasted 9 minutes and 16 seconds. Romanians appear to be way ahead of the game in terms of performance here, as their 7 minute and 19 second national average is a little under 2 minutes faster. No wonder they’re the first country credited with scoring a perfect 10 in gymnastics – that’s some serious dedication to form!  Romanians also stand out in terms of their most and least popular days of the week for visits to the best site in the world; most people tend to flock to Pornhub in larger numbers as the work week starts and then taper off before the end of the week, in countries like the United States and Spain. Romania does it a little differently, with traffic peaking on Thursdays but dipping the most the day before, on Wednesday. This is perhaps due to a significant near 30% of the population being involved in agriculture, an industry which doesn’t traditionally abide by the standard work week.

According to our anonymized demographics data provided by our analytics software, the women of Romania are a little late to the Pornhub party in that the country falls a whole 5 percentage points below the international 23% proportion of female viewers. According to our research, there currently isn’t a porn star going by ‘Vlad the Impaler’ for some reason. Someone should really get on that – they would definitely fare well in the Big Dick category which is the third most popular in the legendary 15th century royal terror’s homeland. We have also noted a definite appreciation for age with the ‘Mature’ category proving to be the most viewed there, however. We have only ever seen this category rank first in Italy, though nearby Croatia also hangs with a slightly older crowd with regards to their top viewed categories, as there ‘MILF’ comes in first and ‘Mature’ in second.

This taste for riper women is especially interesting when considering the age demographic breakdown of Romania’s Pornhub visitors. In our piece, The Golden Age of Pornhub, we found that the older people got, the more they wanted to watch porn featuring people that looked more like them. Romanians actually have a larger proportion of users under 45 than the international figures, so we’ll have to chalk it up to a very healthy respect for one’s elders being a part of Romanian culture.

PATRIOTISM IN PORN SEARCHES

If you’re a regular reader of Pornhub Insights, you know by now that when we study a country’s top searched for terms on Pornhub, nationality usually lands at or near the top of the list. We’ve observed this trend in countries like Brazil, Germany and India to name a few, and again here in Romania, where ‘romania’ and ‘romanian’ nab the first two spots, followed by ‘filme porno romanesti’ and ‘romanian amateur’ a little further down. The abundance of matronly search terms making their way on the list here such as ‘mom,’ ‘milf’ and ‘step mom’ affirm that Romanians definitely prefer their women on the slightly older and more experienced side, unlike in countries like Canada and Mexico, where ‘teen’ ranks in the top 2 spots versus it’s 8th place rank in Romania.

Did you know that the jet engine is a Romanian invention? It’s true! With that, let’s take a look at the ladies that get the engines revving in Romania. Topping off the list here we have the undisputed queen of porn, MILF supreme Lisa Ann (NSFW) followed by Romanian homegirl Alina Plugaru (aka Enrika Dolls – NSFW) and everyone’s favorite stoner babe, Madison Ivy (NSFW), in third. In Romania, New years Eve is the day with the most sizable traffic drop at 52%, comparable to the 53% and 54% drops observed in Russia and the UK respectively on the same holiday. Orthodox Easter is also a major holiday in the country, as attested to by it’s 31% drop, though it would seem that the National Holiday celebrations tend to take place on Pornhub as made evident by the considerable 12% increase in traffic noted on this day.

Another factor affecting how long Romanians tend to spend on Pornhub is where exactly they live. The chart below indicates the sizable differences in average duration visits by region, which vary by as much as 73 seconds. In the capital city of Bucharest, the 7 minute and 19 second national average is extended by a generouts 36 seconds, while in the agricultural regions of Valcea and Mehedinti dip 36 and 37 seconds below the 7:19, putting the time on site here just over the six and a half minute mark.

We’ll bid adieu to this gem of a country with a look at which devices Romanians prefer to use to enjoy Pornhub. Desktop computers claim the lion’s share here, with 72% of traffic originating from PC’s, compared to the 44% worldwide average. As such, mobile use accounts for less than 30% of Pornhub traffic in Romania, compared to the 56% on the international level. Countries like Germany, Russia and Argentina also all hover around these same proportions in regards to their device-specific traffic proportions.

It’s difficult to name a sex symbol more iconic than Marilyn Monroe. The chart below more clearly indicates how the premiering of the film influenced searches for the actress over the 3 day period.

We first noticed a 42% increase of Marilyn related searches on Saturday May 30th when the first part of the film aired, which then peaked the following day with a 115% increase. Things tapered off a little on Ms. Monroe’s birthday on June 1st, where searches for her were up 111% on average. Still quite the feat! While viewers may be disappointed to know that there is in fact no Marilyn Monroe sex tape on Pornhub, featuring Kennedys, baseball stars or otherwise, this surge in searches proves that Marilyn has still got it. While several decades have passed since her heyday, she will forever remain the epitome of sex, mystery and glamour.

What’s your secret taboo? Special kink? Recently, the Pornhub statisticians have been taking a closer look at some of the most popular niches among our users, while examining and teasing out some trends within these groups. We’ve looked into BDSM as well as how the 50 Shades of Grey film affected these types of searches on our site. This particular installment in on smoking. While the smoking fetish is certainly a popular one on Pornhub, our findings quickly revealed that in addition to a strong interest in or fetishization of the act of smoking itself, there appears to be many marijuana affectionados among our users. As such, for this special collab with High Times, we’ve divided this post into two parts; the first focusing on the wonderful world of weed-related porn searches and the second honing in on general smoking-specific data. Let’s light it up!

SATIVA SEARCHES

We’ll begin here with a basic look at exactly how the people of Pornhub search for that other kind of sticky icky on the site. In terms of basic nomenclature, it seems that ‘weed’ is the term most used when performing marijuana-related searches. This coincides with the findings detailed in a recent Slate magazine article, which chronicles the etymology of marijuana and affirms that ‘weed’ is the current term du jour, versus more dated terms like ‘pot’ or the more clinical ‘cannabis’.

We can’t speak from experience or anything, but it’s been said that sex and weed go pretty well together. In this sense, it’s relatively unsurprising that after the obvious ‘smoking,’ that ‘sex’ is the term the most searched in affiliation with ‘weed’. Female-focused searches like ‘girl,’ ‘lesbian,’ ‘pussy,’ and ‘mom’ take up a decent amount of space on the list, as do more 420 flavored terms like ‘high,’ ‘smoke’ and ‘bong’. What stood out the most to us was ‘caught’ which not only invokes an element of taboo but is reminiscent of the days of visine and air freshener.

Let’s take a look at which smoking-hot porn stars are most searched for in conjunction with weed. Topping off the list is the Ebony babe with porn’s most perfect butt, Pinky (NSFW) likely for her starring role in the acclaimed Magical Pinky Weed in which our girl magically appears in a genie-esque way after 3 friends smoke a special strain. This also likely explains why ‘magical’ shows up on the list of top searched terms above. Pinky is followed by known stoner babe Madison Ivy (NSFW) in at second and just to prove her dedication to weed culture, her social media handles all proudly feature 420. So, yeah. Third place is claimed by the proudly sober Christy Mack (NSFW), likely due to a super hot video back from her naughtier days featuring Ms. Mack smoking a blunt and enjoying another favorite form of oral fixation. We’ll leave it to you to find that one, though.

Now that we’ve covered the ‘how’ and the ‘what’ of weed-related searches on Pornhub, let’s move on to the most integral part of the equation: the who. According to our anonymized demographics data provided by our analytics software, marijuana-laced searches are (perhaps unsurprisingly) most popular among males ages 18-24. Specifically, men are 117% more likely to perform these types of searches on Pornhub than women and users aged 18-24 are 120% more likely than any other age group. Comparatively, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that men were still 50 percent more likely than women to use marijuana and that the 18-24 group shows the highest prevalence of past-year use at 30%, the highest of all groups.

50 STATES OF GREEN

Here is an at-a-glance look at which states show the highest concentrations of marijuana-related searches in America:

Interestingly, it looks a lot like the map we studied in this article from the Washington Post, which details marijuana use by state. Topping things off with the highest proportion of searches is the hippie-friendly state of Vermont, where residents are 41% more likely to search for the weed-related goods on Pornhub than the rest of the country. Comparatively, the state ranks third for most overall marijuana use in the country. Rhode Island, the state with the highest prevalence of marijuana, is 20% more likely to perform these searches than the res of the US. On the other hand, over in Georgia where they are 18% less likely to search for weed related content, marijuana use is under 6% by the general population over the course of the past month, ranking them in at 32nd place for overall use in the country.

Interestingly, we also noticed that the legal status of the substance tends to be directly related to increased numbers of cannabis-related searches. Bluntly put, in states where marijuana use is completely legal, searches of this type are 14% more likely to occur. The opposite is also true in that in the states where marijuana use remains completely criminalized, these same types of searches are 6% less likely to occur.

For the last part of this first section, we’ll expand our horizons and look out to how the rest of the world searches for the ganja-fused goods on the world’s biggest porn site. The country that likely pops into most people’s heads when thinking about weed is arguably Jamaica. This likely has to do with widely known prevalence of marijuana use for sacramental purposes in the Rastafari movement, though less than 10% of the country’s population are said to actually belong to the religion.

In April of 2015 some of the country’s marijuana laws were relaxed but recreational use remains illegal. This fact may have to do with why the country overall is 62% less likely than the rest of the world to search for weed-related content on Pornhub. On the other hand, over in Costa Rica where use is decriminalized and the laws surrounding use are reportedly generally quite lax, residents are 32% more likely to search for marijuana-related vids.

SSSSSSSSSSMOKING

We’d now like to turn it back over to the topic that initially peaked our interest, which is the fetishization of the act of smoking among Pornhub users. To be clear, the following data pertains not so much to what is being smoked, as was the case with the marijuana-specific data we presented above, but has to do more with the enjoyment of smoking as an act of oral fixation. We’ll start out with a list of the terms that are most searched for along with ‘smoking’ on Pornhub. As we saw with our weed-related data, and now here again, ‘sex’ tops the chart which makes good sense in that if you’re looking for content pertaining to smoking on a porn site, it’s overall more likely than anything going to have to do with sex than, say, Coho salmon.

Just after we have ‘fetish’, followed by ‘cigarette’ and ‘weed’. This shows us that what is being smoked is important but what follows shows that maybe who is smoking whatever it may be is also quite significant. The rest of the list features a slew of searches involving older women. Specifically, ‘mom,’ ‘milf,’ ‘mature,’ ‘stepmom’ and ‘cougar’ all feature on the list, which shows a correlation between smoking porn and older women. This link becomes even more interesting when we take a look at who specifically among our viewers is viewing this type of content the most.

We saw above that weed related searches were most popular among younger viewers, aged 18-24. When it comes to smoking related searches, this same group is actually 59% less likely than any other age group to perform these types of searches. In fact, it is our 45-54 year old audience who is the most likely to search for this type of content on the world’s biggest porn site, a trend which we also observed in our earlier post, The Golden Age of Pornhub. In this post, we were able to isolate the general top searched terms by age group and ‘smoking’ came in at 8th place for most popular. We also noticed that older people were more likely to search for porn featuring older models, which also explains the prevalence of the mature themed searches we noted in the list above. Let’s now take a look at the porn stars most searched in relation to smoking.

Topping off the list here is none other than Rachel Starr (NSFW). She’s well known for playing to her fans’ love of her mouth’s many talents as well as for a video in which she stars with number 3 on the list, Eva Angelina, (NSFW) which involves a lot of lesbian sex and cigarette smoking. And of course, no list ranking porn stars would be complete without porn’s perpetual queen, Lisa Ann (NSFW), who ranks in at second thanks to a few hot vids in which she indulges in all kinds of dirty habits.

WHERE THERE’S SMOKE…

This heat map indicates the prevalence of smoking related searches in the 50 states. Right away, our attention is drawn to the Northeastern most part of the country. New England loves them some smoking porn.

Unlike with marijuana where states with high usage rates also showed high levels of marijuana related searches, tobacco use is seemingly in the mid to lower range in these states according to this map from the US Center of Disease Control. Arkansas, Kentucky and West Virginia are the states with the highest levels of tobacco use overall, but these states are only 39%, 49% and 138% more likely to perform smoking related searches on Pornhub. Comparatively, Vermont is 204% more likely to search for smoking porn than the rest of the nation, again, despite not ranking particularly high as a tobacco using state. On the other hand, California which is known as being home to a health conscious population, ranks low both in regards to tobacco use and smoking related searches. They’re 47% less likely than the rest of the American population to look for this type of content on Pornhub.

We’ll end off here with a look at which countries search most and least for smoking porn. At the top of the list here are many countries which we have profiled in the past, such as Spain, Denmark, Italy and Brazil, which all featured ‘smoking’ as a top searched term overall when we were analyzing their specific search trends.

On the other hand, when we profiled Mexico, which is 76% less likely to search for smoking porn than the rest of the global population, we noticed that searches for healthier habits ranked quite high. Specifically, searches like ‘gym,’ ‘fitness,’ ‘yoga,’ and ‘massage’ were popular among Mexicans.
